Day 1Arrival in Amman airport Jordan. You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel in Amman. Here you will meet the rest of the group and given a more detailed brief of the trip ahead.Amman Hotel.
Day 2Travel to Wadi Rum Desert. After breakfast you will travel by coach to Wadi Rum desert , with a journey time of around four to five hours. Tonight you will be sleeping in Wadi Rum desert This Bedouin camp has beds , toilets and showers. Our local guides and will cook a traditional Bedouin meal using an underground oven.Wadi Rum desert.
Day 3, 4, 5, 6 Trekking phase – Wadi Rum Desert. Your U.K expedition leader will take you through detailed instruction, ensuring you are prepared for the adventure ahead. Topics covered are Navigation, First Aid, ‘lost’ Procedures, Survival Shelter Building and Fire Making. For the next four days you will be living life as local Bedouin. Navigating by compass and GPS, you will cover large open ground stopping off at Bedouin sites along route for refreshments. The desert will vary from day to day – from large dried-up lakes to towering rock features. One thing is for certain – you will relish the sense of solitude in this vast expanse of desert. Each night you will be wild camping well away from the beaten track to feel the vastness of this beautiful desert. We will trek to set locations carrying only light kit in which our main baggage will be carried forward by jeeps. Improvised camps will be set up by our local Bedouins and food will cooked over an open fire. During our time in Wadi Rum no desert experience wouldn’t be complete without riding a camel through the desert. On the fourth day of trekking we will arrive at Bait Ali Camp. This hotel is based on the edge of the Wadi Rum desert. You can rest and relax by the edge of the pool or go for a sunset quad bike experience through the desert. Booking and payment for the quad bikes is through the hotel as its not part of this package price.Wadi Rum desert. 4×4 Jeep assistance / safety vehicle with English Speaking Bedouin Guide/driver. Group will have one UK professional guide with them. Wild camping enjoying the traditional tribal hospitality.
Day 7 Petra Today you will visit Petra. An early morning rise will be followed by a two hour coach journey to the site. Words cannot describe this stunning ancient city. We’ll say no more for now. Just make sure you have your camera at the ready! Tonight we will staying in a hotel in Petra.There is the option of a morning Balloon Ride subject to availability and weather.Booking of balloon ride is through the hotel and is an additional cost of around £140 per person. Petra entry cost covered. Evening stay locally in a hotel near Petra. Evening meal will be at your own cost.
Day 8 Dead Sea visit / swim. An early rise for a coach journey to the Dead Sea. Round off your trip by floating weightlessly in this wonderful sea. Take a mud bath and relax. After the Dead Sea experience, there will be a one-hour coach journey to the hotel in Amman.Dead Sea entry fee covered. Amman Hotel. Evening meal will be at your own cost.
Day 9 Amman TFree time in Amman to take in the local sites.Amman Hotel. Evening meal will be at your own cost.
Day 10 Group to depart from AMMAN.

In each case the children will learn some or all of the following skills. (The longer the course, the more in-depth will be the degree of learning)

  • Survival Psychology – why a positive attitude is crucial. How to find items to help you in your quest for survival
  • Wilderness Foraging – how to identify which plants are edible and which to avoid. How to find and conserve water

  • Signalling for Help plus Search & Rescue – How to attract help and how to find lost (and possibly injured) team members
  • Shelter Building – How to build a shelter from whatever materials Mother Nature provides

SOLITUDE

What can I expect from Solitude?

During each of these sessions you’ll receive clear instruction and demonstration, followed by the opportunity for you to have a go for yourself. Although we leave you to fend yourself from midday through the night, we keep an eye on you from a distance, just in case things don’t go quite to plan.

What can I expect from the course?

Your first task is to set up camp and learn how to prepare your rations for an evening meal. On Day Two, the real work begins. You’ll learn such skills as –

Day 1Arrival in Amman airport Jordan. Early birds can visit Lambir Hills National Park or explore Miri. Miri is the gateway to remote parts of Northern Sarawak, Borneo. It is a hive of local activity and has some thriving fish and fresh produce markets and many of the rural population use it as their main hub for selling their produce.Miri Hotel
Day 2Safety brief and kit check. A group safety brief will be given covering everything about the trip. The group leader will show all of his personal kit that he is taking into the jungle. At the end of this session there will be time for people to purchase any missing items that they feel they need for the trip. You will be given a full jungle kit list before hand in the U.K.Miri Hotel
Day 3Head to the jungle – Penan village. Catching a morning twin otter flight we head into the Sarawake jungle. On landing we transfer to 4 x 4 jeeps for a two hour journey followed by a one hour canoe ride to the Penan village. On arriving at the village our guide will introduce you to all the key people, he will take you on a short tour of the village and ensure you get to know your local staff team. This is also a chance to acclimatise to the heat and humidity of the jungle.Penan village. Sleep in village , dinner with Penan family.
Day 4Head deeper into jungle – main jungle camp location. Today we travel deeper into the jungle by dug out canoe until we arrive at our jungle camp. Here you will be taught how to live and operate in the jungle safely.Once camp is established we will head out on a local walk through the jungle. Along the way our local Penan guides will show you all that they know about how to survive in the rainforest. What plants to eat and what plants to avoid.This evening will be your first night in this amazing environment. Day 5Fire and shelter day. Today we learn about making fire with the bare essentials. This all important skill will be practised throughout the trip. Following on you will be shown by the Penan how to make an off the ground shelter using only what the jungle provides.Main jungle camp Jungle routine sleeping in hammocks. Diner around camp fire.
Day 6Tracking and traps day. Today you will start to learn how to spot animal tracks and bird calls, and as a result there is no doubt that you will start to become at one with the forest as you trek through an incredibly remote area. Whilst doing so you will learn how the Penan make traps to catch wild pigs. You will have time to set some traps yourself. Main jungle campMain jungle camp Jungle routine sleeping in hammocks. Day 7Forest sign language day and trek to Penan village Today you will learn the traditional way the Penan communicate through leaving jungle signs. This fascinating language can tell you many things such as who is hunting in the area and where they are heading to. All of this can be learnt by understanding the complex arrangements of cut twigs and folded leaves. Whilst learning forest sign language we will be trekking to a different Penan village.Arriving at the second Penan village you will be able to make comparisons to the first village and see how in tune the locals are to the environment.Main jungle camp Jungle routine sleeping in hammocks. Day 8Blow-pipes and fishing day.Today we understand more about the Pean way of life. You will learn how to make several blow pipe darts from scratch followed by how to effectively use them with a blow- pipe.In the afternoon you will learn to fish the Penan way using fish traps and throw nets. After some successful fishing we will move onto fish preparation for our evening meal.Main jungle camp Jungle routine sleeping in hammocks. Diner around camp fire.
Day 9Trekking day. Today we will trek to giant waterfalls, followed by wild camping next to them. You will be able to spend some time exploring classic forest waterfalls and really go back- to-basics and understand what life is like as a semi-nomadic tribesman.Wild camp location Jungle routine sleeping in hammocks. Day 10Trekking day. After a morning breakfast by the waterfall we will head back to our main jungle camp and relax for the remainder of the day , in preparation of tomorrows solitude survival experience.Main jungle camp Jungle routine sleeping in hammocks. Diner around camp fire.
Day 11Solitude Survival experience. For the next 48 hours you will put your new found survival skills into action by spending 48 hours alone in the jungle with the bare minimum of items. You will need to build your own Penan shelter , catch your own fish , collect edible plants and set traps for pigs. You can chose to do this alone or your can pair up with someone on the trip. Throughout this experience our Penan guides will be on hand to offer advise only. Alternatively you can rest and relax in the main camp.Survival experience.
Day 12Solitude Survival experience continued.Survival experience.
Day 13Move back to Penan village. End of Solitude experience A.M On completing the solitude survival experience in the morning we will pack up everything in the jungle camp and head back to the first village we stayed in by dug out canoe. After a spending time in the jungle you will have a better understanding of the Penan way of life and how the Penan use the jungle to their advantage.Penan village. Sleep in village , dinner with Penan family.
Day 14Last day of the expedition Leaving the Penan village early in the morning we will head back to the original airport using dug out canoes and 4x 4 jeeps. With time to spare we will say goodbye to our Penan hosts and fly back to Miri and stay in the same hotel as on our first night. Tonight we will have a group meal in Miri.Fly back to Miri and check back into original hotel.
Day 15End of the expedition End of expedition. Check out of hotel. Depending when your flight is you may choose to shop. Alternatively you may choose to stay to discover more sites of Borneo, of which we will gladly point you in the right direction for this.International flight from Miri to home.
